hormozi's exact youtube idea checklist (actually get views)
Your video ideas suck.
Not because you're not creative. Because you're not systematic.
I've generated 2.7B views across channels like PlayStation, Red Bull, and top 0.1% creators.
MrBeast's team uses this exact checklist for every video.
1. Would You Click This Hungover?
Gut test. Brutal clarity.
Does it make you care instantly? Even when tired, distracted, or overwhelmed?
If you wouldn't click it at your worst, your audience won't click it at their best.
2. Does It Open Multiple Curiosity Gaps Instantly?
Not just one hook. Several layered questions in one breath.
Example: "How did he survive 100 days underwater — and why?"
Two gaps: HOW (method) and WHY (motivation).
3. Is There an Emotional Reaction in the First Second?
Awe. Shock. Envy. Fear. Hilarity. Admiration.
If there's no feeling, there's no click.
Your title should make people's pupils dilate.
4. Can ANYONE Understand It?
No niche jargon. No MBA-speak. No assumed context.
Could a 13-year-old get it? Could your grandma get it?
If not, you're limiting your audience.
5. Is It Built Around a Specific Audience Desire — Not a General One?
NOT "make more money."
BUT "escape the 9-5" or "beat saturated markets."
It should stab a pressure point your audience actually feels.
Generic desires get generic results.
6. Is the Client the Only Person Who Could Make This?
If someone else could upload the same idea, it's not differentiated.
Anchor it to personal story, proof, or access.
Make it impossible to copy.
7. Does It Instantly Feel Like a Win or Threat?
Is the benefit obvious? Or the cost of missing out scary?
Example: "I Ignored This One Strategy — It Cost Me $100K"
People click to gain something or avoid losing something.
8. Does It Feel Fresh — Even If the Format Isn't?
The idea should feel new or upgraded.
Even if inspired by something that's worked before.
Avoid recycled phrasing or shallow spins.
9. Is There Proof That Similar Ideas or Formats Perform Today?
Not just vibes. Actual recent winners.
Even in adjacent niches showing the mechanism works.
Data beats intuition every time.
10. Would a Friend Instantly Say "Tell Me More" If You Pitched It?
If it needs a paragraph to explain, it's not tight enough.
Great ideas are instantly graspable.
The brutal truth:
Most creators generate 3 ideas and pray.
Winners generate 50+ ideas and filter ruthlessly.
Bad ideas aren't the enemy. Making bad ideas is.
Kill them on paper, not after production.
Your homework:
Take your next 5 video ideas.
Run them through this checklist.
I guarantee 4 out of 5 will fail.
That's not failure. That's filtering.
The 1 that passes will outperform your last 10 videos combined.
Because here's what I know:
You didn't get this far making random content.
Stop making random ideas.
